My name is Amy Peacock and I was born and raised in Usk, Monmouthshire. I went to the University of West England (UWE) to study Law. As a keen tennis player, I’ve always had an interest in sport. So pursuing a career in law and investigating the potential to specialise in sports law was an opportunity to combine two of my passions.

After finishing my LPC LLM course in my final year of university I found myself amid a pandemic, where finding early career opportunities was a challenge, with opportunities few and far between. I spent so many days searching and applying for jobs without any success. I even applied for jobs that were unsuitable, in the hope of gaining employment and some experience for my CV.

"GlobalWelsh has helped me secure an excellent job, an opportunity that would not be available if not for GlobalWelsh’s Connect platform and a push to start talking to people, share my ambitions and become more visible."

Once restrictions relaxed again I thought I’d take my mind off the matter and concentrate on my tennis. It was here, by chance, that I met Walter, and where I found out about GlobalWelsh. I joined the GlobalWelsh Connect platform on the Pathfinder membership level and created my professional profile. I then had instant access to the community in Wales and all over the world. I could search for members based on my location, industry and interests.

I always knew that sports law was ultimately where I wanted to be. To my delight, Mark Loosemore of Loosemores Solicitors, based in Cardiff, appeared in my community search.

"The Welsh connection definitely makes it a whole lot easier - I know that I have something in common with every other member of GlobalWelsh which makes reaching out for the first time so much easier and with much greater chance of success."

After inspecting his GlobalWelsh Connect & LinkedIn profile and company website I was amazed that a Welsh company specialising in sport, was right on my doorstep and exactly what I was looking for. I decided to bite the bullet and send a message to Mark on Connect. We had a brief conversation, exchanged contact information, and arranged an informal chat. That led on to a formal job application and interviews.  Fast-forward 6 months, I am now a Legal Assistant for Loosemore Solicitors.

My membership of GlobalWelsh has helped me secure an excellent job, an opportunity that would not be available if not for the GlobalWelsh Connect platform and a push to start talking to people, share my ambitions and become more visible.

"GlobalWelsh makes building your network easier, connecting you to people with a shared interest to you… Wales! I am looking forward to making more Welsh connections as my career progresses!"

I’ve learned that networking in this way is a key tool to growth in a successful career. It opens doors for new opportunities and helps to build self-confidence when communicating with individuals that may be more senior than you. Networking is a proactive way of building genuine relationships with people you know who can connect you to people they know who can provide you with information, advice and more contacts that will help you make good career and business decisions.

The Welsh connection definitely makes it a whole lot easier - I know that I have something in common with every other member of GlobalWelsh which makes reaching out for the first time so much easier and with much greater chance of success.

I would recommend this experience to others, especially recent graduates and even students who are looking for their first job or work experience during the holidays. The sooner you start to build your professional network, the sooner it will be for you to reap the rewards.

GlobalWelsh makes building your network easier, connecting you to people with a shared interest to you… Wales! I am looking forward to making more Welsh connections as my career progresses!
